Episode #2 - Insomniac Data Leak

On December 12th 2023, Insomniac Games was hacked by Rhysida and they announced they had access to more than a terabyte of data. On or around December 20th, when nobody had paid the 50 bitcoin ransom, they released all 1.7TB on the dark-web for anybody to access.

For sure, multiple game developers have had internal builds, videos, and even source code leaked but the scale the Insomniac leak is unprecedented because it doesn’t target a single game, its the whole company; all the source code and assets for multiple games, future development plans, financial data, and even HR files were leaked for the world to see.

Did Insomniac not know what they had? Would they have paid the ransom if they knew the full scope?

How much of the hacking of game companies is because of the blockbuster release cycle and the quest for any info related to new titles? How much of it is because they seem to be easy targets?

Having both worked there, Rob and PJ dive into the particulars of the situation with a personal spin, and analyze what might happen from here.
